Adobe AIR

Adobe has some new thingy that seems promising: Adobe AIR. In their words: The Adobe® AIR™ runtime lets developers use proven web technologies to build rich Internet applications that deploy to the desktop and run across operating systems.

For now they have some applications, like eBay Desktop – much nicer interface to eBay than the site itself. Have a look here.
